Cook to order

As I look at different food outlets I am amazed at the number that still attempt to hot hold food on a display. This has to be the least appetising way of presenting food known to man! The sight of shrivelled peas, congealed baked beans and dried out meat is a total turn off. I’ve started to look into ways in which cafes and restaurants can deliver food to order to their customers both quickly and efficiently which will significantly enhance their experience. How to transform a counter quickly and cheaply is a problem that I am starting to get to grips with although I admit to needed a little help with it!
The other debate that is often had with food is bought in versus made on site. For example if you go to a Starbucks everything is bought it, if you go to an Eat, the majority of times are bought in whereas in a Pret virtually everything is produced on site. I’m not sure if people are actually out off from visiting a Starbucks because the food is not freshly made, in fact I’m not sure that the average person even knows where it was produced. The bottom line as always is the quality of product and how it’s presented.
Final thoughts around the whole bought in/made on site debate is that if you are going to buy products in you will lose margin and save on labour so in terms of profitability it is pretty much swings and roundabouts.
