A balancing act

Whenever you join a new business you have to think very carefully about your approach. You need to be very clear about how you wish to come across and also clear about how you may be perceived. I try to keep in mind that what you say and what people hear may well be two very different things.
I’m quite a direct and plain speaking kind of person, it’s the Yorkshireman in me. I make no excuses for this as it’s very much part of who I am although as I have gained experience in my career I have learnt to ensure that my style of communication is appropriate to the audience. I have also learned that the quicker people get to know you the easier it will be to form value added relationships, as people get to know me they will understand how I think and what I’m about.

I will return to this subject tomorrow.

People who know me (as well as regular readers of this blog) will know that the last 18 months have been pretty action packed for me and my family. Throughout some very tough times I have been very fortunate to have the support of my wife. It’s easy to take those closest to you for granted, I’m sure that we are all guilty of this at times especially me!
