Compared to what?

One of the biggest challenges which you can face is to convince someone that one of their team is under performing, believe it or not but this is difficult even when results are far from good. Part of the problem is that the overall ability level of people in that division is not great which would make a low performing manager appear relatively competent. This is why I’m quite passionate about bringing in high performing managers as it gives the whole business an idea as to what good looks like. You have an opportunity to benchmark your existing people which can only be a good thing. What these new managers also do is start to raise the bar with regards to results and as they start to achieve better results it gives other manages the opportunity to model excellence as a way of helping them raise their own game, of course not everyone can do this and it’s inevitable that some people will find themselves in a situation where they are unable to improve the way in which they work.

All of the above is something that I have been involved with in the past which is why I can make some of the statements with a high degree of confidence.
