Telling the world you are gay

I am a bit behind the news cycle but did want to comment on the young Olympian who felt compelled to tell the world that he has a boy friend. It’s sad that in 2013 anyone is still bothered by the fact that someone is gay, it’s also sad that this young man felt that he had no choice but to share a very personal part of his life with the rest of the country. I was pleased that the reporting of this was less hysterical than in the past and I look forward to a point (hopefully in the not too distant future) when someone telling the world that he has a boyfriend will be no more newsworthy than if he announced to the world that he had a girl friend.
