Today sees me and Alex heading off to the play centre whilst Moira finishes wrapping the presents, she gets to do this because she’s so much better at it than I am! We have been boringly organised and completed all of our Christmas shopping so we can avoid the last minute rush although I am worried about how we will fit everything into the car.
Trade on the high street has not exactly been stellar this Christmas, with many retailers opening asking “what happened to Christmas” it will be interesting to see the retail sales figures for December. At the moment, whilst many of the economic indicators are positive there really doesn’t seem to be a “feel good” factor in the country. Hopefully this will change over the coming months as wage increases outstrip inflation.
It’s been interesting to hear. Ed Milliband bleating about the number of part time jobs that have been created. To be honest I strongly believe (as do far cleverer, better qualified people than me) that the reason why jobs have continued to be created through what has been a slow recovery is the flexibility within the labour force and also the lack of cumbersome labour regulations which are a burden to many other countries. It seems clear that whilst many people are feeling that they don’t work enough hours in the week. They are grateful for a job.
I still have a few hours preparation for my meeting on Monday to do over the weekend but I am feeling pretty confident that my team has produced a plan which we start to “move the dial” across a wide range if performance measure over the coming years.
