I am out and about today in North Wales with one of my team on site visits, tomorrow is my final opportunity to prepare my shortened presentation and to get it ready as I will be going through it with various board members next week. Once I have had the plan signed off and communicated it internally I will start to share parts of it with you via this blog.
I was interested to see the profit warning issued by Debenhams the other day, interested but not remotely surprised as from a retailers point of view it felt like Christmas never happened. I’m not sure of this was due to the extra shopping day or if people we hanging on until the last minute waiting for bargains. There was also a lot of online shopping as more and more people turn to the internet as it’s a much more convenient way to shop, no driving anywhere, no hassle in finding a parking place (and paying through the nose for it) and no queuing to pay for anything. As a consumer it would be fair to say that I do most if my shopping online, the bulk of our weekly food shop is delivered by Sainsburys, my music is purchases via iTunes and I have a kindle and obtain books via Amazon. All my banking is done online and all of my bills are paid online. People like me are no longer the exception.
