Sadly I’m not sure that this blog post will get anywhere close to matching the quality of the book with which it shares it’s title but I will do my best…..
After a busy day yesterday I am back in the North West for the rest of the week and whilst it’s lovely to be home I do wish Alex wouldn’t wake up crying at 3am. He went back to sleep and is now dreaming happy baby dreams and I have been awake since then unable to get back to sleep.
I’m heading to the midlands today to look at ideas and designs for our forthcoming refurbishments. Part of my strategy is to differentiate our three brands both in terms of offer and look and feel so today is an important part of that journey.
We have started interviewing for training roles, again this is an important part of my strategy as I am a great believer that you cannot grow a business unless you grow the people within it. The roles will be predominately field based and I am hopeful that they will make a real difference to the business going forward.
Finally, we have started to sell a new brand of soup in our test shops, many of you will be familiar with the Glorious brand and I am really pleased to be working with them. We started selling it a couple of days ago and initial reaction has been really positive both from our customers and our teams. We are also testing a new range of impulse products as well as a range of small cakes which are retailed from the fridge (a range similar to Prets) with these trials being an important first step towards making our offer more contemporary and relevant to our customers. If you are in London you can check these products out in our Oxford Street coffee shop.
