I had the dubious pleasure of listening to Mr Salmond this morning and the more that I listen to him the more that I become frustrated. I accept that he is a skilled politician and that his agenda will appeal to many Scots, I also very much accept that “in or out” is a decision for the Scots although I do feel that the rest of the UK should get a vote also.
To be honest, given the serious trouble the whole of Europe is still in I regard the whole thing as an unnecessary distraction at a time when the recovery is gathering pace and things are at a tricky stage.
My other gripe is that Mr Salmond still maintains that there could be monetary union despite that two very different economies and the very different fiscal agenda in Scotland.
Can Scotland be an independent country and a reasonably successful one, of course they can but I don’t think that this is the issue, the issue is more as to what is in everyone’s best interests not just Scotland’s.
