Whenever I listen to anyone connected with the Labour Party I despair. For some reason they seem to believe that the “cost of living crisis” is somehow not connected to the recent recession both in the UK and the rest of the world. They seem to believe that somehow creating jobs can be done without having a growing economy. Take this jobs guarantee, how on earth are you going to guarantee someone a job which doesn’t actually exist? Jobs are linked to increased demand as anyone in business is very clear about. A large part of my role at BHS is to create growth which in turns provides our existing colleagues with more hours (if they so desire) and better career opportunities. Of course, this is a two way deal as whilst I can work to provide strategies for growth and help create the conditions for success, ultimately it’s my colleagues on the front line who can execute the strategy and make a difference for our customers.
Ok, rant over!
