Opinion poll

I don’t often comment on politics as whilst I keenly study what goes on in Westminster I don’t claim to have great insight. The fact that the polls have closed significantly over the last weeks is good news, what is better news is that the economy is heading in the right direction and it seems that shortly we will be seeing wages outstrip inflation. This has to be a good thing, people need to feel that being in work will allow them to pay for the basics in life as well as allowing them to enjoy life. Part of my role (a huge part of my role) is all about helping people who work within hospitality in BHS have the opportunity to work the hours they want, to have career progression if they so wish and to have job security as well as having the opportunity to make a difference within their working environment. Only by achieving this can we really be successful.

Whilst I am flirting with political comments I have to say that I find sad when I hear politicians still talking about workers and bosses as if we were still stuck in the 70’s, maybe in some companies that is the case, it really isn’t the case within BHS or indeed any of the companies that I have had the good fortune to be associated with, the leaders within these companies are enlightened enough to know that they need to take their colleagues on a journey with them and the whole idea that “us and them” is in any way shape or form a good way of achieving success is laughable.
