Taking Stock

I’ve had a bit of a lie in this morning as it’s been a tough couple of weeks which has Involved a lot of traveling, so have a lot of catching up to do which meant I spent a couple of hours on email yesterday and will be doing the same again today. This is far from ideal but I really need to start the week with a clean slate, partly because the admin was piling up and partly because his week also includes some travelling as well as a deadline for sending off my conference presentation.
So life is busy and thinking time is limited, that said I have been reflecting on progress made versus my business plan. Now I tend to to be very self critical and far harder on myself than most people so looking back on the last 11 months I seem to spend more time reflecting on the mistakes (of which there have been a number) and not enough time reflecting on all of the successes (we have had a few of those!) which can be somewhat counter productive.
Overall I am frustrated that we have not moved things along quickly enough and I have not made as much progress as I would have liked, that said I have to recognise that this has been the toughest role of my career by some considerable distance. For the moment I will have to spare you the detail but when I come to write my memoirs a large section of them will be devoted to my efforts to turn the good ship “BHS” around!
