Whenever I speak to people in our industry about their careers I always recommend that they do some time abroad, there is no bigger challenge to your leadership style than working in a different culture. Not only do you have to adapt your style but before you even get around to doing that you have to get to understand the local culture. In Kuwait (as in many countries in the GCC) this is even more difficult because you are working with people from all over the world, for example within my business we have Arabs, Nepalese, Bangladeshis, Indians, people from the Philippines so it’s quite a collection of cultures.
It’s a challenge that I relish but it’s not without its frustrations!
