People that have inspired me

My last post on this subject was based on my time at Pret. For this post I want to talk about my former CEO at SSP. In many ways he was the ideal line manager, he was appropriately challenging, he treated people like grown ups and left them to get on with their jobs. That said he had an eye for detail and having spent 30 odd years in the rail business he had a pretty good idea as to what was going on. I enjoyed working with him and learnt a huge amount from him, he had real gravitas and a calm reassuring air about him, he is also the only person that I have met in my career that gets into the office as early as I do!
I still miss our early morning chats when we put the world to rights and our tours of the business but I’m pleased to say that we have kept in touch and I am still able to go to him for advice.
