It’s been a couple of months since I set myself up on my own, it’s not something that I ever planned to do but after leaving my last role I knew that it might take a while to find something else so I decided to take the plunge and give it a go. I tried something similar when I returned from Egypt a few years ago and got nowhere whereas this time I have been far more successful. The difference being that I have spent so much more time networking on LinkedIn that it has been easier to find work. My decision to specialise in smaller businesses and start ups has helped as it’s an area where I have some knowledge and because of my experience I am able to add value to founders/owners as they attempt to scale/get their business off the ground. Given that I am working with small businesses I have been very realistic with my fees as few small business can sustain a highly paid executive.
So far so good but I know that I will need to work hard to ensure that I have plenty of work coming in and that I keep on getting out there and letting people know what I am doing.
