One of the things that I have learnt when dealing with a distressed business is that you need to move quickly as time is generally not your friend. That said, there is a difference between doing things at pace and doing things recklessly and it’s important that you don’t let your desire to get things done get in the way of common sense. Decisions still need to be carefully considered, you still need to get buy in from stakeholders around the business and you still need to ensure that you are not about to make a colossal mistake.
As frenetic as things are at the moment I am still ensuring that as a team we think carefully about things and give ourselves time to consider the pros, cons and potential unintended consequences of each and every decision and where possible we are trying to trial things ahead of a full launch. For example, we have replaced our pastries in our London bars with freshly baked and freshly delivered pastries from a small London bakery and in our trial store sales have doubled in a week.
I’m still on Norwich this morning and will be spending most of the day here before heading home.
