We were taught this at Pret. The idea being that a swan glides serenely across the water but below the water line it’s legs are kicking away furiously in order to propel it forward. The parallel is that a leader should be doing something similar. Not matter how hectic things get and how much there is going on, you should carry on in a calm considered fashion, gliding smoothly across the day which beneath the surface you are busy getting things done.
Yesterday felt like a really long day, a 4am start is never the best way to kick off the week but it ended up being a highly productive day. Members of the team and I had a really good meeting at St Thomas’s and then we had a productive team meeting in the afternoon. These two events were interspersed with other calls and some IT gremlins.
Today is a day of meetings and we have some key decisions to make in a number of areas.
