New Year’s Eve disaster Part 1

I previously mentioned that would talk a little about my adventures in my electric car so here goes…..I’ve only had it a week but my first meaningful trip out with it was to visit my brothers who live 150 or so miles away. My first problem is that I have yet to install a home charger, this is because the car was due to take 6 weeks to arrive but arrived much sooner and also because the home charging people have been quite slow.

Not having a home charger makes life difficult and expensive as using fast chargers is far from cheap and I have never started the day with a full charge. This was the case when we set off on NYE. The problems started when I stopped too early in the journey for a top of charge which meant that when I arrived at my destination I needed a further top up. I have an app that helps locate charging points and it led me to the local Tescos and their charging pod. This was not a good idea as it’s a slow, overnight charger which was no good to me in the time available. I did manage to locate a nearby fast charger but by this time I had abandoned my wife and child for long enough so added enough charge to compete some visits to various family members before driving over to check into our hotel where I knew there was an overnight charging station.

We got ready and drove to a friends restaurant for our NYE celebration and by the time I got there I only had about 15 miles left of charge. This wasn’t a great situation but it would be enough to see me drive to the restaurant, pay a visit to my brother and then return ti the hotel for a full charge.

We had a lovely meal and upon returning to the car I discovered that my left, front tyre was as flat as a pancake. This is when the brown stuff really hit the fan…….

Part two coming soon
