Franchising

SBGC are involved in supporting a number of businesses with their growth plans, both via company owned stores as well as via franchising. Many founders view franchising as a potentially easy option but unless it’s done properly then it can be hugely difficult and quite large problems can be created which will have a large impact on the overall business. Here are my personal top tips for avoiding problems

1. Fine the right franchise partner and be prepared to turn down potential partners which don’t match you criteria

2. Have a well thought through franchise system before you start franchising

3. Be open and honest with franchise partners

4. Don’t let franchise partners make decisions about your brand

5. Ensure that you have the right support system in place – this includes marketing

6. If a franchise business is in trouble then react quickly and decisively

Whilst some of the above would appear statements of the obvious trust me when I tell you that I have seen these mistakes made time and time again!
