As the MD of this business I am very aware that how I respond to situations sets the tone for the rest of the business so I have to consider my responses carefully, the phrase “keep calm and carry on” always springs to mind. As I have become older and more expereinced I have developed an ability to step back from situations, taking time to think through what actions I plan to take and to consider both the intended and unintended consequences of any decision that I make, I’ve also realised that on occasion the “do nothing” options is far from the worst. I suppose it’s a case of leadership being as much about what you don’t do as it is about what you do – this isn’t my line, I stole from the excellent “West Wing” which I must have watched more times than I can remember.
At the moment within the world of Vital there is a sense of calm before the storm as we start to gear up for the better weather and higher sales, we have been planning our summer for a few weeks now and working hard to enure that we have enough trained people in our stores to ensure that queues move quickly.
In terms of my day, it’s all about one to ones with my team and property visits and hopefully some store visits.
