Growing a small business quickly is one of the most difficult things a team of people can attempt, leaving aside the practical considerations such as, for example site selection, raising growth capital and managing cash there is also the cultural implication as people who have become used to doing things in a certain way slowly realise that this is no longer possible. Horrible words like “process”, “consistency” and “focus” suddenly appear from nowhere and become part of their everyday vocabulary. For some people it’s a painful transition and one that they may be unable to make, either due to them previously being a “jack of all trades” and lacking specialist skills or just that they cannot get their heads around their new reality.
It’s at this stage that people like me become involved……
