A new week

After a fairly quiet weekend I’m refreshed and ready for the challenges of the new week, whatever they may be!

Today is the day when we get to know the latest GDP numbers and on Friday we have the latest retail sales data which is unlikely to be pretty. I’ve spoken to a number of people within the industry who all agree that December was far from great.

I’m hoping that the end of some of the Brexit uncertainty will help restore consumer confidence and a return to wintery weather might also help as its unseasonably warm at the moment.

Finally, yesterday marked the end of Mothercare in the UK, yet another venerable name has vanished from the high street. I’m sad for all the people who have dedicated a chunk of their working life to the brand. I wonder which brand will be next?
